The Planning Division is the forum in which the community determines what it would like to be and how to get there. The principle long range plan is the City's General Plan, adopted on March 4, 2008. It contains policies and guidelines to reach our desired outcome by the year 2030. The General Plan addresses a number of topics including:
Land Use
Economic Development
Circulation
Parks, Schools and Community Facilities
Open Space and Conservation
Public Health and Safety
Public Utilities
Noise
Implementation
Housing
The Planning Division is also the form in which development proposals are submitted to the city to insure that city laws are met, and that the proposal is in keeping with the city's goals and policies. The purpose of these laws is to protect the public health, safety and welfare. Most discretionary entitlements are reviewed by the City Council. Others are reviewed by the Zoning Administrator. Building and sign permits are reviewed by City Staff.
The Project Review Committee is made up of representatives from each City Department and meets weekly to review certain projects prior to formal submittal.
