The "1,000 Books before Kindergarten Challenge" is a Porterville City Library program that encourages all families and caregivers to read at 1,000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten.

Local Spanish speakers who never had the opportunity to attend school will now be able to learn to read and write in Spanish. This will give them the foundational skills, and confidence, to learn English, read with their children, gain better employment and more fully engage in their communities.

Aaargh you ready for a reading adventure? Join the Porterville City Library as we sail through the month of March. This mini reading program is for children and teens, ages 0-17. Read your way to our Ice Cream Party at the end of the program. Yo-Ho Mateys!
