Adult Literacy Program

Mission Statement: To provide free one-on-one literacy instruction to empower adults to succeed as individuals and members of our community.

The Literacy Center is located inside the Porterville Public Library at 41 W. Thurman Avenue.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.
The Literacy Center is closed on Saturday, but tutors and learners can meet in other rooms.

We offer free, confidential one-on-one tutoring for adults. Learners must be 16 years or older and be out of school to qualify for the program.

English as a Second Language: The Adult Literacy Center is now offering a new English as a Second Language program for non-English speaking adults. This program will run as a conversation circle group with 2 to 6 people and one Tutor. The class will meet once a week for 1 hour upstairs in the Genealogy Room.

Resources: The following applications may be printed, filled out and returned to the Adult Literacy Center in the Porterville Public Library.
