Read to Succeed Adult Literacy May 2012 Newsletter
Come and join in on the fun as we play board games and strengthen Literacy skills. Friday, May 4, 2012 - The Literacy Quarterly Meeting will meet from 10:00 a.m. to1:00 p.m. Special guest speaker Cathay O. Rea will be with us sharing on Pro Literacy Membership, Volunteer Management, and Literacy Programs coping in difficult financial times. Friday, May 4, 2012 – “One for the Money” is the next book to be read and discussed for the First Friday Book Club here at your Porterville City Library. The event takes place up in the Local History Room at 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday, May 8, 2012 - National Teacher Appreciation Day. Teachers are special people; They nurture lives! The Adult Literacy Center is very appreciative of all our Tutors who graciously help change lives through Literacy. They all do an outstanding job.
Saturday, May 26, 2012 - Free computer class taught by staff. The class for this month is Introduction to Keyboarding. If interested you may sign up at the circulation desk. There is limited seating. Don’t miss it. Learners’ Achievement Corner We are proud of Tutor John D. and his Adult Learner Anthony Y. who bravery collected the National Volunteer Week Literacy Proposal 2012 from the City of Porterville. We are especially proud of Anthony who wrote the message of gratitude that John delivered to the City Councilmen. This was a challenge to Anthony, and he did a good job. Jennifer and Tutor Stephen have been working hard on her GED math. She is ready to take her exam. Thanks to Stephen who has been guiding and helping her.
