CORONAVIRUS NOTICE FROM PARKS & LEISURE SERVICES

With the announcement that Tulare County has had its first confirmed case of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and under the guidance of state and local health authorities, all non-essential services provided by Porterville Parks & Leisure will be suspended until further notice.  This includes recreation activities, special events, and sports leagues that were scheduled to occur during the month of March.  Porterville Parks & Leisure will continue to be in regular contact with health officials, including the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), concerning the appropriate practices and will review future programs that might be impacted as more information becomes available.

While this decision comes with an abundance of caution, we take the health and safety of our community very seriously.  Our staff will communicate with current sports league participants and all those scheduled to participate in upcoming community events for plans of the next steps.  Refunds for special event wristbands for the Fishing Derby and the Kids Fest will be provided on an ongoing basis by visiting our office at 15 E. Thurman Ave.  Please see below for a list of revised or suspended activities.  If you have specific questions, please contact our office at (559) 791-7695 or email parks_leisure@ci.porterville.ca.us.

As a reminder, the City of Porterville and CDPH professionals are encouraging all community members to continue the practice of every day, common sense, preventative actions which include:

  • Washing hands with soap and water.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. If surfaces are dirty, clean them using detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
  • Avoiding touching eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or your elbow.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay away from work, school or other people if you become sick with respiratory symptoms like fever and cough.
  • Remain at home until fever has been gone for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines.
  • Seek immediate medical care if symptoms become more severe, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing.
