Dive in Theatre

Watch a movie from inside the refreshing City Pool.  A great time for the entire family.  $5 for family up to 6, $1 each additional member. Gates open at 7:30pm and the movie begins at dusk.  Concession stand will be open during the movie.

Youth Track & Field Meet

Open to all 1st-8th graders. There's also a 50M Dash for 3-5 year olds.  Ribbons to the top 6 in each event.  Inquire within Parks & Leisure about the Jr. Pirates Track Club.

Pitch Hit & Run Competition

May 7, 2010 @ The Heritage Center

National competition in which participants test their speed, hitting accuracy, and pitching skills.  Winners have the opportunity to advance to the sectional, state and national competitions.

Nature Hike

March 6, 2010 @ Tule River Parkway, 9:00am to 12:00pm

FREE!

Hike led by Parks & Leisure Services Commissioner, Cathy Capone.  View early spring wild flowers and several types of birds in their natural habitat.  The hike starts and ends at the Jaye Street ride lot located at the south bank of the Tule River at Jaye Street.

Wear comfortable protective walking shoes, bring water, a snack, and sun or rain protection.  The first hour will be an easy walk on a paved path, suitable for children in strollers or riding bikes.  The last two hours will be on sandy trails, closer to the the Tule River.  Families or participants may turn back at any time.

Egg Hunt

April 2, 2010 @ Veterans Park

Sponsored by OACYS Technology, Porterville Tire, Inc. and the Porterville Exchange Club.

7,000 candy and toy filled eggs make their way to Veterans Park for this fast and furious event. Selected eggs contain raffle tickets redeemable for prizes including bicycles.  Baskets allowed for 2/3 year olds only.  No parents allowed in the hunting area.  Don't miss a visit from the bunny!

Bring your pole and bait to the stocked Murry Park Pond.  Age divisions:  2-7, 8-15. Child must be able to reel in their own fish.  Trophies to the top 3 in each age division plus a trophy for the big fish of the day.

Bring your lawn chair or blanket and enjoy a Friday evening of music and relaxation in Centennial Park on Main Street.  In conjunction with the Porterville Chamber of Commerce, Music on Main features local talent every Friday evening from 6:00pm-8:00pm in April, May and June.  Some chairs are provided.

Veteran's Day Run

November 11, 2010

This event features a 10K Run as well as a 5K run, 5K walk and a Kid’s Fun Run.  The race begins at 7:00 a.m. in front of City Hall (291 N. Main Street) Downtown Porterville.

Awards will be given to 1st through 3rd place in each age category for running and walking events.  All participants will receive an official race day shirt.

The entry fee is $15 for runners and $10 for walkers pre-registered and $18 for runners and $13 for walkers day of the race.  Day of registration is from 5:45 – 6:30 a.m.  The Kid’s Fun Run is FREE!

Ping Pong Tournament

July 10, 2010 @ Santa Fe Gym, 9am

This tournament is open to men, women and youth ages 10- seniors.  Males and females compete separately.  Pre-registeration at the Heritage Center is $3, or register the day of for $5.  Day of registration will be from 8am-8:30am only.  No late registration will be accepted.   Admission for spectators is free.
