Parks & LeisureZALUD HOUSE MUSEUM SPECIAL EVENTS "Old Fashioned Christmas" Candlelight Tours The Candlelight Tours have been cancelled for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Zalud House Museum hosts its annual “Old Fashioned Christmas” Candlelight Tours on four days in December from 6:00-8:00 pm. The Zalud House will come alive with the holiday spirit featuring special seasonal displays, vintage decorations and yuletide piano music. The guided tours and refreshments are sure to provide an enjoyable evening for the whole family. Admission is only $3 for adults and $1 for children. Built in 1891, the Zalud House is one of few museums in the nation that is furnished entirely with the original owners’ possessions. It is listed in the National Historical Registry of Old Houses and in the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is located at 393 North Hockett Street. October 9, 2021 Pioneer Days is an event the whole family will enjoy. Downtown Porterville will be transformed into a vision from the Old West, complete with a live shoot out, interactive cowboy encampment, Buffalo Soldiers, gold panning, saloon, historical displays and re-enactments. Plus, there is music, food and craft vendors, kid’s activities, the tasty rib cook-off competition and the battle to be crowned Princess, Junior Miss and Little Miss Pioneer Days. There is no cost for the community to attend. The event is hosted by Parks and Leisure Services and is a fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to preserve and protect Porterville’s Zalud House Museum. The Rib Cook-Off is sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
