Boards, Commissions, and Standing Committees


The Library and Literacy Commission consists of seven (7) members who are residents of the city of Porterville.  The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, and are appointed by the City Council.

Name and Title:  Allan Bailey, Commissioner

Appointed:  10/2011

Occupation:  Attorney

Community Involvement:  Porterville Sheltered Workshop Board Member; Boy Scouts of America Merit Badge Counselor; 2013 Porterville Charter Review Committee Chair.

Additional Information:  Loves his family, likes to run and has benefitted from access to excellent libraries in his life.

Occupation:  Second grade teacher at Monte Vista Elementary

Community Involvement:  Porterville Celebrates Reading; Porterville Library and Literacy Commission; Porterville Leadership Graduate 2011.

Additional Information:  Loves her family, loves books and reading, and loves technology (when it works).  Goals:  to travel to parts unknown, to learn some crafting skills, and to assist in creating a vibrant, vital library for our community.

Community Involvement:  Member of Zonta Service Club;         Former member of PUSD; District Advisory Committee; Porterville Chamber of Commerce Director; and Porterville College Building Committee.

Occupation: Retired Teacher

Community Involvement: Community board of Boys & Girls Club of the Sequoias of Porterville; Member of Teacher's Honor Society; Delta Kappa Gamma Porterville/Visalia; Member of International Se Club.

As part of Delta Kappa Gamma Mrs. Bishop helps young future teachers. Mrs. Bishop has also been involved in creating mini libraries for the Police Activities League and Boys and Girls Club.

Community Involvement: Reader for the blind for 28+ years; Leadership Porterville Graduate Class of 2003; Chamber Ambassador, Cook and Board Recording Secretary for Helping Hands of Porterville; Friends of the Library life member; Active with the Barn Theater and Grandma's Taxi.
