LIBRARY AND LITERACY COMMISSIONER PROFILES


The Library and Literacy Commission consists of seven (7) members who are residents of the city of Porterville.  The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council, and are appointed by the City Council.

Name and Title:  Ellen Nichols, Chair

Occupation:  Musician

Community Involvement:  Congregational Church, AAUW, PADS volunteer, Porterville Summer Strings, and Community Strings.

Additional Information:  Born and raised in Tulare County, Strathmore Union High School Alumna, Mills College educated.

Occupation:  Executive Director of Imagine Community Arts Center

Occupation:  Program Director, Porterville Development Center, retired; Licensed Occupational Therapist

Community Involvement:  Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP) volunteer counselor for Medicare and related issues with Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency; Business Education Committee, Government Affairs Committee, and Leadership Porterville with the Porterville Chamber of Commerce; AAUW; Inter Se; Current Topics; P.E.O.; and Library and Literacy Commission member.

Additional Information:  Long time Porterville Library patron who especially enjoys fiction, the computer classes, the audio books, information about the arts and cooking and now the newly organized Book Club.  Other interests include bridge, traveling with my husband, Boyd, and visits with my children and grandchildren who live in Memphis, TN, Toledo, OH, and Fairfield, ID.

Additional Information:  Loves her family, loves books and reading, and loves technology (when it works).  Goals:  to travel to parts unknown, to learn some crafting skills, and to assist in creating a vibrant, vital library for our community.
