When does the City Council meet?

The City Council conducts its regular meetings every first and third Tuesday of every month, in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 291 N. Main Street.  Closed Session begins at 6:00 p.m., and the Public Session commences at 7:00 p.m.

How do I voice my concerns to the Mayor and City Council?

You may send written correspondence to 291 N. Main Street, Porterville, CA 93257; fax to 559-715-4013; call 559-782-7466; or e-mail the Council Members.  Residents and members of the public are encouraged to attend council meetings and are able to address the Council on any matter of interest during the Oral Communications period at the beginning and end of each meeting.

How do I sign up to receive a copy of the items to be discussed at City Council meetings?

To sign up for the City Council Agenda distribution list simply contact the Office of the City Clerk by phone at 559-782-7464; e-mail, cityclerk@ci.porterville.ca.us; by mail, or in person at 291 N. Main Street, Porterville, CA 93257.  The agenda consists of all items to be considered by the Council and a brief description of each item.

What are the terms for Mayor and City Council?

Members of the Council are elected at large for staggered, four-year terms. Elections are held each June of even-numbered years.   The Mayor and Vice Mayor are selected by the Council to serve a two year term, but either may be removed at any time by a majority vote of the council.

How do I run for City Council?

General Municipal Elections are held in June on even-numbered years. The nomination period opens in early February and appropriate papers to file and run for office may be obtained from the City Clerk. For more information, such as eligibility requirements please see 'Election Information'.
