February 2018 Employee of the Month

Aileen Andrews

Parks & Leisure - Library

Aileen Andrews was employed by the City of Porterville as a part-time Library Aide for the Parks and Leisure Services Department in May 2012. However, Aileen was assigned to the library through a youth to work program offered by CSET in December 2011. We were extremely grateful that Aileen's High School developed highly sought after business skills! As a Senior in high school Aileen made it very clear that she was a responsible and motivated worker with superior customer service skills and she adapted quickly to the diverse needs of our library community. Aileen continued to display super star employee qualities and was selected to fill the position of full-time Library Assistant in September 2016.

Aileen is responsible for generating new programs and refreshing established programs as the current Chair of the Porterville Library Planning Committee. Aileen coordinates youth volunteers in the summer, is part of the Story Time team, audits item records in our catalog, markets services and programs with our local providers, generates and maintains a network of local resources for partnership during the library summer reading program, and so much more! Aileen is an invaluable team player who always displays a great attitude, is solution driven and consistently implements the desirable qualities of an exceptional City Employee through deliverables that promote resourcefulness, responsible time management, and compassionate customer service!

Aileen has a very large family and has many hobbies. She recently started working with a youth band at church and is the guitarist and part time drummer. Drumming is her passion and she has being playing the “sticks” since 4th grade! She loves to read, crochet, eat and seek adventure! Aileen absolutely loves people and loves to be around people, so you can find her hanging out with friends or family on a regular basis. Aileen says she enjoys so many things at the library. However, her most fond memories involve kids at Story Time saying some of the funniest things. Aileen says one moment that really sticks with her is when she was the Easter Bunny and a child ran up to hug her and they both fell to the floor. The moment was captured by the photographer and the funny thing is it looks like the child is beating her up with a candy bag… those moments are priceless!
