The City of Porterville sponsors the Porterville Chamber’s “First Friday Coffee” event at the end of each year. The State of the City Presentation provided at the event serves to give an update regarding City of Porterville progress regarding projects and community matters. Outstanding Business Honorees are also recognized at the event. The 2023 Outstanding Business Honorees are Happy Hearts Children's Center, Nanlangka Teppankyaki & Sushi Bar and Hergesheimer's Donut Factory.

The 2023 State of the City event will take place at Eagle Mountain Casino on Friday, December 1, 2023.

The 2022 State of the City took place at Galaxy Theater on Friday, December 2, 2022. Mayor Martha A. Flores delivered the annual State of the City Address. Outstanding Business Honorees were Merle Stone Chevrolet, Imperial Ambulance, and ZeroNox, Inc.
