On June 9, 1890, the Porterville Volunteer Fire Department was organized and consisted of the Chief and 22 volunteers. Today, the department operates 3 stations, with 42 sworn-full time professional firefighters , administrative staff, and a small pool of volunteer reserve firefighters protecting the City of Porterville’s 60,000 residents and surrounding community.
