IMG_1076_000On Thursday, March 19, 2020 the California Governor issued a stay at home order which requires the shut-down of all non-essential businesses.This requires temporarily closing of our Adult Learning Center until the order is lifted. We look forward to being able to return to normal business.

The Learning Center is located at 15 E. Thurman Ave, Suite B, on the 2nd floor of the Centennial Plaza Building on Main Street.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 1:00 pm and 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

The Adult Learning Center provides the following services:

  • Volunteer Opportunities
  • Adult Tutoring Assistance
  • English as a Second Language
  • 3 Tutor Rooms
  • Study Areas
  • Wi-Fi
  • Job Search Resources
  • Computers

Mission Statement: To provide free one-on-one literacy instruction to empower adults to succeed as individuals and members of our community.

We offer free, confidential one-on-one tutoring for adults. Learners must be 16 years or older and be out of school to qualify for the program.

Volunteers Role:

  • Available 2 hours per week to meet
  • Assist with Basic Reading & Writing Skills
  • Help Learners achieve their goals
  • Tutors will receive free training and materials

Benefits to Learners:

  • Improve Reading and Writing Skills
  • Assistance with GED exam
  • Assistance with Citizenship exam
  • Assistance with Job search

Resources: The following applications may be printed, filled out and returned to the Adult Literacy Center in the Porterville Public Library.

FREE English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered at your Porterville City Library, 41 W. Thurman Ave. on the 2nd floor. These classes are for non-English speaking adults and they meet the following days:

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Beginners Group:
9 am - 10 am

Beginners/Intermediate Group:10 am - 12 pm

FREE Citizenship classes prepare you for taking the U.S. citizenship test. They meet the following days:

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Citizenship Class:
12 pm - 1:30 pm
