Zalud House Museum Pioneer Days & Rib Cook-Off
Presented By

October 5, 2024
11:00AM-3:00PM (Rib Competition begins at 7:00am)

The Zalud House Museum Pioneer Days & Rib Cook-Off began in 2012 as a fundraiser for the Zalud House Museum.  In a partnership with the Jackass Mail Run Association, Porterville is transformed into a vision of the old west, complete with a live shoot out in the street.  Historical and educational displays and re-enactments are just a few of the attractions that are featured at the event every year.

The anticipation of the Rib Cook-Off is probably the biggest draw to the crowd.   Any and all backyard BBQ enthusiasts are welcomed to compete in the rib cook-off and vie for cash prizes, the People's Choice Award and the Best Decorated Booth Trophy. The public can buy  tickets to sample the ribs from an array of flavors and fashions of rib styles.  The rib tasting is sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and is the major fundraiser for the Zalud House.

Other components of the event are the Little Miss, Junior Miss, and Pioneer Days Princess Pageants . These informal pageants give little girls the opportunity to dress up in their favorite western look, and charm the judges as they compete for the titles.

Pioneer Days also welcomes vendors, food vendors and informational booths.

The City of Porterville Parks & Leisure Services is proud to offer this special event for the community.  This event is fully funded by the generous donations from sponsors, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the protection and the preservation of the Zalud House Museum.
