Applications for City Committees and Commissions are taken on an on-going basis and vacancies are filled as they become available.  Applications may be mailed, e-mailed, faxed or hand-delivered to the City Clerk’s office.

Vacancy Announcements

Arts Commission
There are currently two vacant seats on the Arts Commission, one general vacancy with a term to expire in July of 2026, and a youth vacancy. The Arts Commission serves in an advisory capacity to the City Council regarding the development and promotion of practices and policies pertaining to the Arts. The Arts Commission consists of five members, plus one youth member. The term of office shall be three (3) years with terms with the exception of the youth representative who serves a one (1) year term. Those members represent four areas of arts: 1) theatrical/ performing arts; 2) visual/graphic; 3) music; and 4) youth. The Commission shall hold regular meetings, the time and place thereof which shall be determined by the Commission.

Parks and Leisure Services Commission
There is currently one (1) vacancy on the Parks and Leisure Services Commission. This Commission serves in an advisory to the  City Council on matter concerning Parks and Leisure Services and is comprised of eight (8) members with staggered four (4) year terms. To be eligible for appointment, individuals must reside within the city of Porterville and represent a cross-section of the community. The Commission currently meets on the first Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. 

Transactions and Use Tax Oversight Committee (TUTOC)
There is currently one (1) vacancy on the Transactions and Use Tax Oversight Committee (TUTOC). This committee is an independent citizen's oversight committee established by the City Council and charged with monitoring the expenditure of General Fund revenues derived from the Transactions and Use Tax for Public Safety, Police and Fire Protection, and the Transactions and Use Tax for Public Safety and Essential City Services and is comprised of ten (10) members with staggered four (4) year terms. To be eligible for appointment, members must be a resident of Porterville, a business owner or operator.  Meetings are held yearly, or as needed, City Hall, Conference Room, 291 N. Main Street.

In compliance with the requirements of the Maddy Act, Government Code Section 54972, the link above is a list of City of Porterville commission and committee members whose terms run through December 2022.

Note - The names on this list are subject to change based on term expirations and resignations that occur during the year.  Please refer to the corresponding commission or committee page for current membership rosters.
