PORTERVILLE PUBLIC LIBRARY PROJECT DESIGN AWARDED TO PAUL HALAJIAN ARCHITECTS
The new Porterville Public Library is another significant step closer to development. At its meeting on August 15, 2023, the Porterville City Council awarded the Consultant Service Agreement for the design of the Porterville Public Library to Paul Halajian Architects in the amount of $3.2 million. In order to help ensure the successful design and construction of the future library and future sports complex, which will be located adjacent to the library, additional scope items were included in the consultant contract. Those items included a traffic study, sports complex master planning, and additional services, testing, and plans that are required and critical to the overall construction. This is an exciting step to bringing a much-needed state-of-the-art library to the community.
The Halajian Team has secured engineers and specialty consultants that have worked on the design of other libraries to ensure that the new library is well received and well designed. Information from the March 2023 Request for Qualifications and the 2021 Library Services and Facility Needs Assessment were used so that the design meets the goals of the project. The new library will provide a wide range of amenities which will provide a robust variety of library services to the Porterville community. The planned 40,000-sf community library will provide exciting new learning opportunities and state-of the-art technology, full accessibility and many green building components, and the adjacent Santa Fe Sportsplex will include lighted mini-pitch arenas, and pickleball courts.
The start of the design plans of the future library have been long awaited and highly anticipated. The new library and sportsplex are much needed amenities for Downtown Porterville and will provide many recreational opportunities for years to come.
