MAIN STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATES

The first phase of the Main Street Reconstruction Project is well underway. The Project is part of the City’s plan to revitalize the Downtown area and is intended to enhance pedestrian and vehicular circulation. Construction for the Project started at the beginning of September after Granite Construction Company was awarded the contract.

The City plans to reconstruct Main Street from Morton Avenue to Olive Avenue and has divided the Project into three separate phases. The first phase, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed by November 3, 2023 in preparation of the annual Veterans Day Parade, and consists of new underground facilities, concrete curbs, and asphalt pavement between Morton Avenue and Putnam Avenue. The Project also includes transportation and utility infrastructure improvements which consist of updating the deteriorated systems for the storm drainage system and installation of new facilities to protect the integrity of the existing pipe system.

Granite Construction has been making efforts to minimize inconvenience and mitigate traffic concerns by keeping construction hours to Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Motorists are asked to adhere to traffic signs and slow down for any cone zones.
